A Video Presentation of the Made-in-China Buick Riviera Coupe Concept


Last week, General Motors pulled the wraps off a gull wing, two-door Buick Riviera concept at the Auto China 2013 motor show in Shanghai. Even though GM has no plans to produce such a model, the Riviera Concept's goal is to give us an idea of how Buick's design language will evolve in its next generation of cars, for both North America and China, which is the brand's biggest market.

"The new Riviera offers a preview of Buick's future design language," Shanghai General Motors Corp. President Ye Yongming said in a statement.

General Motors May Sell Chinese-Built Cars in the USA


Would you currently buy a car made in China, with all of the bad publicity, those old catastrophic crash test videos and the general lack of experience in building automobiles? Well, of course, that depends on which company makes them, but you may be faced with the decision sooner than you'd think, because apparently, GM has expressed its desire to build some of its cars in China and export them to other markets.

Currently, GM's plan in China is to construct four new plants, in order to considerably boost capacity, and raise the number of local dealers to 5,100 by 2015 (today, there are 3,800 sales points, and another 400 will be added in 2013).

Buick Revives Riviera Nameplate Again with Another Concept Coupe for China


Did you feel a sense of déjà vu upon hearing the name and looking at the pictures of GM's new Buick Riviera Concept? If the answer is yes, then you likely remember the Buick Riviera Coupe Concept from the 2007 Shanghai Auto Show.

While that study never materialized into a production car, GM's Shanghai GM and Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) joint ventures are giving the project a fresh try with a new concept at this weekend's 2013 Shanghai motor show.
