MT Thoroughly Tests All Three Versions of Jaguar’s F-Type

The Jaguar F-Type has been much talked-about ever since it was announced, and we began seeing the first camouflaged prototypes. The hype it has created is was expected and it does show the power of the Jaguar brand. Few other non-exotic cars have aroused so much interest lately, and now with reviews starting to pour in, we can get some idea of what it’s like. Read more »

Spy Shots: New Jaguar F-Type Coupe, This Is Really It!

As fate would have it, just a couple of hours after we showed you why we weren't (fully) buying into Jaguar's claims that the patent renders of the F-Type Coupe were of the C-X16 Concept, our spy photographer dropped the first shots of the actual production model caught on a public road.

From what we can tell by looking at these images, the F-Type Coupe looks identical to the vehicle in the patent renders right up to the mirrors (same ones used on the Roadster) and with a few negligible differences, to the C-X16 Concept as well, which in our eyes, is very positive…

This Cat is Really Stretching Out: Jaguar XJ with Extra LWB Coming to China?

The Jaguar XJ is a long car, with plenty of room in the back for even the most long-legged of supermodel girls. If, however, you want more room than you actually need, there’s the extended wheel base version, which is very popular in China, and now, if we are to believe several leaked patent renderings, an even longer variant could be on its way.

Be warned, though, as this could just as easily be hoax, or even 3D model destined for a driving game. Still, if it really is a patent rendering, then it announces the arrival of a “super-stretched” XJ destined exclusively for the legroom-crazy Chinese market.

Jaguar Tells Autocar F-Type Coupe Patents Show Concept, We Say Pics May Suggest Otherwise

Recently, German car magazine shared some patent renderings showing what they reported as being the F-Type Coupe, something we agreed upon leaving a small question mark. However, just the other day, British publication came with a report stating that a Jaguar spokesperson told them that the "apparent F-type coupé renderings in fact show the C-X16 concept from 2011". As usually happens in our digital world, many sites jumped in on Autocar's report and took it for granted.

After looking into the matter again, we'll disagree with Autocar's assessment that the renderings clearly show the concept – not because of a spokesperson statement, but due to facts from specific photos of the patented coupe, the C-X16 Concept and the production F-Type roadster.

Jaguar F-Type in Coupe Form Shown Via Patent Renderings?

Behold what could very well be the production version of the Jaguar F-Type coupe, previewed by the C-X16 study, a car that is even prettier than its drop-top counterpart, with a swept-back look, slightly tapering rear end and huge rear window.

These patent renderings of the F-Type coupe come courtesy of German magazine AMS. What makes us think that this could be the real thing are some details such as the production exterior mirrors, side trims and door openers.

Jaguar Trademarks Q-Type and XQ Names – SUV On its Way?

Despite denying reports that it was working on and planning to launch an SUV, Jaguar has just registered the names "Q-Type" and "XQ" with the EU trademark office. Is it a case of better safe than sorry (in terms of name) or is Jaguar secretly developing an SUV or crossover-style model(s)?

Well, we don't know yet but if they are, they do have access to any Land Rover tech, which means that their off-roader would actually be a capable one. If it’s image and tradition you’re concerned about, let us remind you just how big of a success story the Porsche Cayenne is – it was a much bigger departure for Porsche, than an off-roader would be for Jaguar.

Ian Callum Talks to MT, Shares Insight on the Jaguar F-Type

If you’re into cars, and you appreciate a vehicle for its design prowess, then you will undoubtedly have a few Jaguars on your favorite cars list. There is a very high likelihood for those models to be old ones, from the 1950s and 1960s, but Jaguar still makes pretty cars.

One of the main reasons for this is Ian Callum, which is the brand’s design boss. Now, he’s been invited on MotorTrends Wide Open Throttle web show, where he answers questions and generally shares insight into the philosophy behind their latest product, the F-Type, a car some have been waiting for over two decades.

Mercedes-Benz Increases U.S. Sales Lead over BMW in April

Mercedes-Benz sold more vehicles in the U.S. in April than archrival BMW, with increases reported for some pricier models like the SL-Class.

Sales for the Mercedes-Benz brand rose 5.8 percent to 23,635 in April, while BMW posted a 10 percent increase to 23,225 units. The April results extended Mercedes’ 2013 lead to 4,695 vehicles as the two rival automakers compete for the sales crown that BMW has held for two years.

OpEd: Is the Jaguar F-Type Really Worth All That Hype?

I haven’t seen a Jaguar F-Type in the flesh, never mind driven (or being driven in) one. Thus, just like the rest of you I rely on info from established fellow journalists to gain some insight on what has been heralded as the spiritual successor to the iconic E-type.

So far, I’ve seen two videos comparing the new Jag against the Porsche 911 Cabriolet, from EVO’s Tiff Needell and Autocar’s Steve Sutcliffe. When it comes to British journalists sampling a British car I tend to be a bit cautious. You know, once bitten (not by the aforementioned, but nevertheless, bitten) etc.

The F-type lost in both comparisons. Granted, the 911 is one tough cookie and, besides, losing to Stuttgart’s finest is not something to be ashamed of even if it’s the car you’ve firmly set your crosshairs on. What troubles me is that the new roadster has been hyped up as a true sports car and a return to form for the prestigious British brand. But is it?

This is the Original Jaguar F-Type that Never Made It to Production

Long before the current F-Type, Jaguar was very close to launching a similar car that would have been the first true successor to the iconic E-Type. As the XJ-S failed to emulate the E-Type’s success, in 1980 Jaguar started developing the F-Type, codenamed XJ41 (coupe) and XJ42 (roadster).

The F-Type was supposed to use the underpinnings of the XJ40 sedan and to look like a modern reinterpretation of the E-Type. Signed off for production in July 1982 by Jaguar’s then owner British Leyland, the F-Type started taking shape, with a launch date set for March 1986.

Next Jaguar XJ Not Getting Two Different Body Styles After All…

Not so long ago, we told you that, according to an Edmunds report, Jaguar was going to design two distinct body styles for the next generation of their XJ saloon. We explained that the move was motivated by the company’s desire to make it in China, a country where the current model’s bold lines and different look are not particularly appreciated – a more classic-looking design would have been preferred, and that, along with the fact that China is growing to be Jag’s primary market probably sparked the rumors. Not Many Cars Look Good in White – Jay Leno’s Jaguar E-Type Does!

I firmly believe that the 1960s marked the peak of automotive design, and the Jaguar E-Type, or XKE as it’s known in the US, is one of the finest examples of the era. No matter how hard Jaguar will try to “revive” it through the F-Type, they have failed to do so simply because modern regulations don’t allow cars to look like they did 50 years ago… Read more »

Jaguar Takes a Shot at Making Movies, the Result Is Not Bad at All

The Jaguar F-Type is a very important car for the British marque, so any chance it gets to promote it is exploited at maximum. Following Lana del Rey’s song “Burning Desire”, written exclusively for the F-Type, Jaguar now presents a short film called “Desire”, which premiered today at Sundance London film and music festival.Read more »

Tiff Needell Pits Jaguar F-Type Against Porsche’s New 911 Cabrio

It seems that all the fear regarding the Porsche 911's new electric power steering system has died down, and it is still revered as a sweet-handling track machine. Now that the Cabriolet version is out, EVO Mag has pitted it against an even newer sports car, the Jaguar F-Type V6S, in a classic head to head track battle. Read more »

Next Jaguar XJ Reportedly to Come in Two Market-Specific Body Styles, Classic and Modern

You can’t not notice a current-generation Jaguar XJ as it drives by, and as you move your head in synchronicity with the movement of the car, you will notice that other people around you have also taken notice. It’s an imposing sedan, and the first different XJ in a long line of conservatively-styled cars.

However, it seems that while the new look was received quite well on the markets where the brand is already well-established, it fared less-well elsewhere. In China, for instance, most would apparently prefer a more restrained and classic-looking Jaguar shape, and since it is set to become the Indian-owned automaker’s main source of revenue, they feel forced to comply.

New Jaguar F-Type Roadster Test Driven in Spain

Jaguar is slowly, but steadily providing its all-new Jaguar F-Type for tests with the UK's HonestJohn being one of the first to try out the roadster at a press event organized in Pamplona, Spain. Those who drove the F-Type did so in order of power outputs.

First off was the 340PS (335hp) 3.0-liter V6, which apparently needs to be worked a bit, but that’s not a chore since it gets paddle shifts – though, if left in automatic mode, it is apparently a bit indecisive.

Jaguar XK-1 Design Concept Resurrects the Classic D-Type

Like all sports and premium carmakers with a long presence in the industry, Jaguar has created some models, which for one reason or the other, have withstood the test of time and become legends.

The D-Type is one such model. Produced between 1954 and 1957, the sports racing car with the distinct shapes and lines won the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race in 1955, 1956 and 1957. It is this classic model that inspired the creation of the Jaguar XK-I Concept by Mudit Gupta, a design student from the DSK ISD International School of Design in Pune, India.
